4 VT Review of BOOM Chicago’s ''9/11 forever''
Amsterdam, 9 November 2011
9/11 took place on the 9th of September 2001, hence the name 9/11. It was a series of four coordinated terrorist attacks on the United States. This was organized by an Islamic extremist military group called al-Qaeda and their leader Osama bin Laden. Four passenger airplanes were hijacked, two of them were crashed into the Twin Towers of the World Trade Centre in New York City, the towers subsequently collapsed. The third plane was crashed into the Pentagon in Arlington, Virginia. The final plane did not make its intended destruction, because passengers tried to regain control of the aircraft and it ended up crash landing in a field in Pennsylvania. It was a tragic day in American history. (Amy)
On the 9th of November2011 in the evening, we went to Boom Chicago in Amsterdam. It was in the centre of Amsterdam, so we went with the “tram” to Leidseplein. Boom Chicago is a big building which just looked like a café bar, but when you were inside it looked 10 times bigger! In Boom Chicago we saw a comedy show which called 9/11 Forever by Pep Rosenfeld, Greg Orton and Andrew Moskos. It was about the attacks on the 11th of September 2001. (Sylvia)
It was kind of a pub, with a very cosy feeling. So we found our seats and sat there and waited for the show to start. The show started and the comedians came up in a security suit, they began with seeking through the audience if there was something forbidden or suspicious. This represented the situation in the USA nowadays, where everything is very strictly protected. (Daniella)
My favorite part was in the second half where one man asked: “Name a celebrity”. Someone in the audience answered: “Beyonce”. And then the man asked: “Name a well-known brand”. And then someone said: “Heineken”. So the man wrote these two names on a small white board. Then the other two men came on stage and they acted like some kind of professors in connecting things to each other. And they could all lead the tragic accident on 9/11 back to Heineken and Beyonce. That was the funniest part and it was very well improvised. So now we all know that it wasn't Al Qaida who attacked the Twin Towers but Beyonce and Heineken. (Tom)
My thoughts about this show are really positive, I think they really did a great job converting a really serious subject into a comedy show, a good comedy show! I thought the show was good because there was a lot of improvising, I really enjoy how comedians make things up just at the spot. I liked the thing that they showed the difference of USA 10 years ago and USA now. For example, the security checks at the airport. I really had a good laugh and I would surely recommend this to someone else! (Teije)
I thought It was very funny and I certainly want to go there another time (Tyko)
